Family Mediation Lawyer

A family mediation lawyer is your best choice when choosing a mediation professional to mediate conflicts within a family unit especially when it comes to divorce, separation and child custody issues. Why? Think about it, if you want a mediator that has the appropriate mediation skills and is familiar with the commensurate family laws, why wouldn’t you hire them? It just makes sense..

You will have all your bases covered and can be assured that any outcome agreed to by the parties involve will meet all the requirements of the law.

This is not to say that people should not use mediators that aren’t lawyers. Many people do and are quite happy with the outcome.

The point we are making here is that given the choice and the complex legal issues, a mediator with a law degree and experience in the area of conflict, is going to give the participants, in the context of what is legal and what isn’t, a better all-round service.

Having said that, a lawyer with poor mediation skills, isn’t going to be of much help. A failed mediation is going to end up with the parties involved hiring lawyers and going to court. So the number one criteria for any mediator is his or her mediation skills irrespective of whether they have a law degree or not. The idea put forth here is that if you can have both skills in one person you need to consider the advantages and move forward from there.

Another element you may want to think about in using a family lawyer is his or her practical experience in dealing with divorce and separation in a court setting. They are fully aware of the adversarial context the court room brings to these issues and can be a valuable asset when working with parties interested in avoiding the pit falls of a court battle. Often times this makes them a better mediator when it comes to separation, divorce and child custody issues.

Further to this, most, if not all mediation involving these matters, require direction on the legal ramifications of mediated settlements and a lawyer may well be involved in one way or another anyway. This can make sense financially in that you may eliminate or at the very least reduce any legal fees involved.

As a lawyer with years of experience working in the area of Family Law Jeremy Dolgin has representing clients from all walks of life in divorce and separation proceedings is more than qualified to mediate settlements in these matters.

Why not give him a call and have a chat about your situation to determine whether his mediation skills can be used to help you in your specific situation.
